How To Pack Jewellery For Your Summer Vacation

Travelling with jewellery this summer?

Here are a few tips to help you decide which pieces to bring with and how to transport them safely.

The First Step: Decide What To Take With You

Granted, this is the type of thing that is easier said than done.

The good news is that we’ve already written a whole article dedicated solely to it. Here’s all the advice you need on how to wear jewellery on vacation.

At Home: How To Safely Pack Your Jewellery

Have you decided which pieces you’re going to take with?

Great!

Now you can begin the actual packing process.

Here’s a quick tip for your peace of mind: take your jewellery with you in your carry-on luggage. Checked-in bags are more likely to get lost or delayed. And if that happens, at least you’ll still have your most valuable possessions with you.

As for what to put your jewellery in, your best bet is a small jewellery case that’s specifically designed for travelling.

Alternatively, you can use little drawstring pouches or the soft, individual boxes that your pieces originally came in.

But, if you have nothing else on hand, some small, resealable plastic bags will do.

Whether you use these or opt for fabric pouches, make sure to pack thin bracelets or necklaces separately. Otherwise, they might get tangled during the trip.

On Location: Unpacking & Storing

Once you’ve reached your destination, take a few minutes to unpack everything.

Hang your necklaces in an out-of-the-way spot, away from sunlight or humidity. Alternatively, lay them down on your vanity table or on your nightstand. Same goes for bracelets. And for rings or small earrings, make a habit out of putting them in a small bowl or container the minute you take them off - turning a hotel room upside-down to search for a lost ring or earring is no fun.

A final note: if the jewellery you bring with you is made of precious materials, you may want to store it in a safe during your time at the hotel. Remember to call the reception desk beforehand, to see if the option is available.

Have a stylish and relaxing vacation!
