Behind The Gems: The Sapphire Dreamcatcher

They say diamonds are a girl’s best friend.

But what if, in fact, it's diamonds AND sapphires?

“Behind The Gems” is a monthly series that takes you on an exclusive, behind-the-scenes tour of our signature collections.

And this edition is all about the Sapphire Dreamcatcher, the follow-up piece to our Ruby Dreamcatcher.

If you’ve always wanted to learn more about your favourite gems (and about gorgeous sapphires in particular), this one’s for you:

The Idea

It all started with the Ruby Dreamcatcher...

Our precious dreamcatchers are the whimsical statement pieces we created as stylish companions to your favourite looks.

It’s only fitting, then, that the latest Dreamcatcher lives up to its legacy with a stunning mix of blue sapphires and pink diamonds.

But what is it about sapphires that makes them the superstars that they are?

Let’s find out…

The Gems

Sapphires are chemically known as corundum and are one of the rarest gemstones. The word “sapphire” itself is typically associated with the colour blue (one of the rarest & most sought after sapphire hues), with royalty and with wealth. Sapphires get their colour from the metals (iron or titanium) absorbed into their structure during their formation.

Pink diamonds - our very favourite form of carbon - on the other hand, get their hue from being subjected to higher temperatures during the formation process. They share the same physical properties with other diamonds, except for their soft, pink colour.

On the Sapphire Dreamcatcher, the blue sapphires and the pink diamonds are a perfect match, giving the finished piece an ethereal aura.
